Caroline Loftus is a visual artist based in northern Vermont. Originally from Connecticut, Caroline first traveled to Vermont in early 2016 to begin her undergraduate degree studies at Northern Vermont University, graduating in 2021 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Continuing her education, she is projected to graduate in the spring of 2024 with a Master of Fine Arts from Vermont State University – Johnson.
Her primary artistic medium is Lumen photography, also known as the solar photogram. This camera-less non-traditional process visualizes a unique interpretation of the photographic image. Caroline focuses on flora and fauna, investigating the unique lifecycles of the natural world. Each image she creates is directly manipulated by nature: gathering plants, composing them on paper, then developing the image under the sun.
